12 important health solutions

We polled the members of our Global Health Communicators Working Group and here are the 12 ideas they offered (with the nominating organization in parenthesis), in no particular order of priority. Do you agree with them? Do you know any others that should be listed here? If so, please post them below.

Water and sanitation can make a huge difference in improving health by preventing water-borne diseases:

1. Increased hand washing with soap: According to the Global Handwashing Day website, handwashing with soap before eating and after using the toilet can cut deaths from diarrhea by half, and acute respiratory infections by a quarter — the same health benefits as thousands of dollars in immunization, for just US $3.35 (Global Health Council).

2. Point-of-use water filters: Vestergaard-Frandsen’s lifestraw provides an effective, affordable way for populations in remote and rural parts of developing countries to obtain safe drinking water, such as areas affected by guinea worm, where treating water sources or eradicating the parasite itself would be a logistical and financial nightmare.

Vaccines are arguably one of the most effective and cost-effective initiatives in global health. Innovation in vaccine delivery and policy make it easier to vaccinate everyone for less:

3. Increased childhood vaccination: Particularly for preventable diseases such as pneumonia (Hib and pneumococcal), typhoid, rotavirus and rubella (Sabin Vaccine Institute).

4. Meningitis vaccine: The vaccine, developed through the Meningitis Vaccine Project (MVP) in collaboration with the World Health Organization and PATH, will cost only 40 cents per dose, making it affordable for many African governments (Global Health Technologies Coalition).

5. Heat-stable and needle-free vaccine: They are inexpensive to produce, distribute and administer, according to recent research from Tufts University School of Medicine. They do not need to be refrigerated, which keeps costs down and prolongs the vaccine’s shelf-life

Diagnosis on a dime — many private-public partnerships are helping to streamline services that make diagnosis less dependent on technical training and costly high-tech facilities:

6. Detecting cervical cell abnormalities with acetic acid: Pre-cancerous cervical cancer lesions can be detected through “visual inspection with acetic acid” using vinegar and a flashlight. Diagnosing pre-cancerous changes could be done with items that most healthcare facilities, even households, have on hand, at around $1.60 per screening (American Cancer Society)

7. Low-resource setting options for treating TB: A new tuberculosis diagnostic tool developed by the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) and partners that can provide highly sensitive detection of tuberculosis and drug resistance in low-resource settings doesn’t require as much training or high-tech laboratory facilities to decipher (Global Health Technologies Coalition).

Treatment for many conditions that lead to secondary infections can have major impact on problems such as maternal and newborn health:

8. Kangaroo Mother Care: A low-cost approach designed to improve newborn health by thinking outside the incubator by getting new mothers and babies closer through exclusive breast-feeding (Thumbs up from both Save the Children and The Global Health Council)

9. Misoprostol for maternal health: The drug, already widely available in developing countries for treatment of stomach ulcers, has been proven effective for preventing and treating severe bleeding following childbirth (Family Care International)

10. Cotrimoxazole as preventive therapy for HIV+ people: The antibiotic is cheap, highly cost-effective and, when given to people living with HIV before they start ARV therapy, can reduce mortality by a third (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine)

11. Paromomycin IM Injection (PMIM): The Institute for OneWorld Health (iOWH) is launching a program in Nepal and Bangladesh to develop a therapy for the neglected tropical disease Visceral Leishmaniasis with the aim of adding very affordable PMIM to the list of safe treatment options (Global Health Technologies Coalition).

12. Comprehensive, rapid-impact medication packages: Neglected tropical diseases threaten millions throughout the developing world, but for just 50 cents, you can fund a rapid-impact package of medications to treat the seven most common NTDs (Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases).

Global health solutions don’t necessarily require radical research, expensive technology or piles of cash. Instead of throwing money at health problems, the trend has been to channel funds towards where they will pack the most punch. Major health improvements can be made in matter of cents.

skin cancer,ph balance,Digestive Disturbance and so on

Skin Cancer

Despite what your doctor and media is telling you, the sun does not cause skin cancer. In fact the sun protects us from skin cancer by producing highly needed Vitamin D. It is a fact that 85% of our population is deficient in vitamin D because we are afraid of the sun. The skin is the largest organ in the body, we don’t think of it as an organ because it is on the outside of our body. Skin conditions such as acne, dermatitis, rosacea, exczema, psoriasis, skin cancers, are simply conditions of an overacidic, poisoned, toxic internal chemistry, manifesting through the skin. The main cause of skin cancer is over consumption of processed vegetable oils called Trans fatty acids reacting to the sun.Colds Flu and Cancer

Microforms thrive in acidity: yeast, mold, virus, and bacteria love to swim in an acidic body. They also love low oxygen that comes with acidity. Worse yet, the wastes that they produce are highly acidic. However, if you balance the pH in the body, this will create an unsustainable environment for the pathogens to live.” Mosquito’s seek the stagnant water, but do not cause the water to become stagnant.” — Rudolph Virchow.

Healthy (alkaline) people rarely get sick, no colds, flu, even heart disease or cancer. Getting a cold or flu is very common among sick (acidic) people, however it is never normal. Our society mistakes common for normal. Normal is vibrant health, common is sickness. I say this with certainty; those who” catch” colds will also “catch” cancer. Cancer and all degenerative diseases is the end result of chronic over acidity weakening the Immune System. If a cancerous tumor is placed in a beaker with an alkaline media; the cancer dies in 3 hours

What is pH Balance?

The most important balance the body strives to maintain is the acid/alkaline balance or pH balance. pH is a logarithmic measurement of the level of acidity or alkalinity which is the measurement of Hydrogen ions in the fluid, thus short for “potential of Hydrogen”. The pH scale is from 1-14 with 7 being neutral. Ideal blood pH is 7.365-7.45. Ideal urine pH is 7.0-7.4. Each change in pH unit is a difference of 10 fold. A pH measuring 4 is 100 times more acidic than a pH of 6, and 1000 times more acidic than a pH of 7. A slight change in pH is a dramatic increase in acid in the body. The pH of blood has to be in a range from 7.365-7.45. A slight change just over 1/10th of a unit of measurement (.1) will cause death within hours. The body is in constant struggle to maintain proper blood pH, our lives depend on it.

Measuring pH Balance?

Although the most accurate way to measure pH is through the blood, this is a costly and painful process because it requires a doctor’s visit and a needle. The second best way to assess the body’s pH is through the urine, using pH test paper. This will give you an indication of how well or how hard your body is working to survive your lifestyle. Measuring urine pH is to find out if your body has a healthy store of alkalizing minerals (bicarbonates) found in the bones and various organs. Checking your pH balance should be just as important if not more important than checking the balance of your bank account.

Digestive Disturbance

Conditions such as heartburn, indigestion, gas bloating, acid reflux, constipation diarrhea, Irritable bowel syndrome or any other syndrome they will come up with to sell more drugs are the result of over acidic small intestine. It is a fact that the stomach’s pH is highly acidic. The highly acidic digestive fluids “break down” the foods you eat, preparing the food to enter the small intestine. The small intestine, all 27 feet of it is designed to be alkaline with a pH of 8.2-8.5. This pH level is needed in order to digest the food, and break the nutrients down into small enough pieces to be absorbed through the intestinal wall, and then to pass directly into the blood stream. When we are acidic, our food isn’t digested properly. The undigested food sits in the small intestine and colon, starts to rot, putrefy and ferment thus causing digestive disturbance. The end result is the rotten putrefying food leaks through the large intestine into our bloodstream poisoning our blood. This process is called autointoxication. It is a very valid fact that all disease starts in the colon, and over acidity is the root cause.

Remember symptoms are like pulling weeds, if you don’t get to the root they always come back!

Belly Fat and Disease

Research concludes that belly fat located around your intestines and organs secretes powerful inflammatory chemicals: cytokines, C - reactive protein, chemokines and leptin. These inflammatory chemicals cause 3 degenerative diseases:
Insulin resistance causing Type II Diabetes
High Blood Pressure
Atherosclerosis (Heart Disease)

This research concludes that it is imperative to alkalize the body to stimulate weight loss, and our lives depend on it. With over 60% of our adult population overweight, and 33% of our children overweight, we are literally digging our graves with our fork and sedentary behavior!

Heart Disease, Inflammation and Acid

Cholesterol is a form of fat made by the liver. In fact, 80% of cholesterol is made by the liver. Acid attacks the thin muscular layer of the arterial wall causing inflammation, the #1 cause of heart disease. Cholesterol is produced as a sealant to fill the cracks caused by the acid continually burning and inflaming the arterial wall. Cholesterol is actually protecting the muscular wall of the artery from acid burning a hole through it. Cholesterol is the good guy. Cholesterol is merely showing up at the site of acid induced inflammation...

To blame cholesterol for heart disease is like blaming a police officer for showing up at the scene of the crime. Both cholesterol and police are there to protect. Cholesterol plaque can only be found in veins because unlike in arteries, veins do not have a muscular wall. The veins are naturally well protected from acid. It is interesting to note that the blood flowing through the veins is low in oxygen. The veins are carrying blood to the lungs to be re-oxygenated, and sent to the arteries for circulation throughout the body to deliver oxygen rich, nutrient rich, blood to every organ, tissue, and cell in the body. So naturally the veins are more prepared for acid due to the low oxygen content. Arteries are not well equipped to handle a low oxygen acidic blood caused from poor dietary habits. This is why the liver is producing more cholesterol. Therefore if one is taking cholesterol medication such as, Lipitor, Zocor or any other toxic chemical designed to lower cholesterol levels, in reality you are disrupting the body’s innate response for survival from over-acidity! In doing so you are creating a chronic inflammatory acidic state in the arteries; depleting the precious antioxidant CoQ10, and weakening the arteries, the heart muscle, and taking you one step closer to heart disease!

A question you should ask your Medical Doctor is, if the cholesterol in my blood is so bad for me, then why don’t I develop plaque in my veins?

When cholesterol medicine fails, the next step is a bypass surgery. They take a scalpel to the occluded artery; replace it with a section of new artery from another part of the body. Unfortunately this only buys about 2 years of life. Bypass re-occlusion rate is 57% after 2 years. This means the artery gets blocked again within 2 years. Medicine and bypass surgery is only addressing the symptom. The root cause is over acidity dissolving the arterial muscle.

Please remember Medicine is the #3 killer in America, it is highly acidic and takes the body further and further away from alkaline balance, longevity, and optimal health!

Acid and Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is one of the leading causes of disability in seniors. Osteopenia is considered early stage osteoporosis and is occurring in women as young as 30 years of age. These conditions are caused by a chronic over-acidic body. Osteoporosis is not caused by a deficiency of milk like the dairy industry wants you to believe, nor is it a deficiency of Fosamax or Actonel like your medicine doctor wants you to believe. As a last ditch survival mechanism the body leaches calcium from the bones and teeth to buffer the highly acidic blood. Constant leaching of calcium from the bones causes osteoporosis; pain, fractures, physical debility, and eventually agony. This is called “Rob Peter to Pay Paul”. The more acid we have in our body, the less calcium we have in our bones. The body is literally digesting the skeletal system for survival from chronic over-acidity! Calcium is one of the best minerals for acid buffering. In America we are consuming 3 to 5 times more calcium than any other country in the world; however we have the most osteoporosis. Unfortunately the most calcium supplements are very poor quality, and offer no benefit to the alkaline buffering system, because it is never absorbed by the body. It doesn’t matter how much calcium we take, itshow much calcium we absorb and keep that counts. "The Answer" will teach you the correct program proven to reverse and prevent this degenerative disease

Bone Spurs

The result of calcium constantly being leached from the bones to buffer the blood causes the skeletal system to be severely weakened. In defense, bone spurs which are primarily calcium, develops in the joints to protect this now weakened skeletal structure. Bone spurs can cause both pain and restriction in movement. This is why most people experience pain and stiffness in the morning when they wake up. This is a warning sign of severe over acidity. This process usually develops along the weight bearing joints like the spine, hips and knees. The bone spurs are not from too much calcium, which we are told; but scientific research has proven it is from a deficiency of calcium and other bicarbonates.
Stone Formation

Chronic over acidity also encourages stone formation in the liver, gall blabber and kidneys. Stone formation is very costly and painful. Stones that block these internal organs from doing their job properly results in gall bladder removal, liver disease and medical intervention to remove kidney stones. The kidney stones usually return because the root cause has not been addressed, chronic overacidity.

“Increasing evidence suggests that persisting, low grade acidosis results in numerous injurious effects on the body; including dissolution of bone, muscle wasting and kidney damages.” — American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2002, vol.76
